The Axe Attack New Zealand Metal Vol.1 represents a personal victory for Hamilton's "The Axeman" Paul Martin. While featuring name acts such as 8Foot Sativa, Subtract, Shakhan and Dawn Of Azazeal, it's the local acts that provide many of the highlights, not the least being 8Forty8 featuring the Koretz brothers, with the huge sound of "Out Of Mind".

Tony Koretz
One of the last (possibly the last) review ever written, by one of the best known and most loved music reviewers in the business; the late Mary Rudy of Muzik Reviewz.com, before her sad and untimely death on Feb 15th 2005, was of Tony's 'Kicking Cans' album. This review, written just days before her passing, in it's ultimate praise of the album, also revealed in her writing, just how well Mary was able to understand the very essence of what the artist was trying to portray through the music. Little wonder that she was such a respected writer, who will be sorely missed. She wrote: ".......make the best buy you will ever make by purchasing the ‘Kicking Cans’ CD." (Mary Rudy R.I.P.)

Simon Koretz; The selected tutor in Dimebag Darrell Memorial Scholarship
A Dimebag memorial was held at Hamilton's 6ftUnder bar Where a Pantera cd autographed by Dime himself and an awesome painting of Dime were auctioned off. The funds raised were put toward a 1 year guitar scholarship for a worthy guitarist in the spirit of Dimebag, to receive a years free tuition with local guitar teacher Simon koretz, who the axeman Paul Martin chose as the tutor. A young and talented guitarist Chris Wood was selected and will kick off his scholarship in a fitting manner learning the Pantera classic Cemetary Gates including Dime's great solo. R.I.P Dimebag.
