Instruments Used on "Kicking Cans"
For those of you who may be interested in the instruments used on the Kicking Cans album, here is a bit of a list. As far as electric guitars go,three were used on the album. A '73 Gibson SG, an Ibanez 540 R and an Ernie Ball Musicman Van Halen model. The acoustic guitar parts were all done on a '79 Maton CW80, and a Washburn classical. All the bass parts were played on an Ernie Ball Musicman Sterling bass. The only guitar amp used was a Peavey EVH 5150. And for you organ fans, the Hammond sounds were recorded through an awesome Leslie 147 valve cabinet. Most of the acoustic drums were laid down using a beautiful white '70s Gretsch kit, with a 24in kick, and a wooden shell snare.
About The Album
Recording was begun on the follow up album for Destiny in January 2002, with some rythm tracks being laid dow over a couple of hot New Zealand summer days, between time spent at the beach. If Your Love was a River, The Tears and I Belong were came from those early sessions. At that stage really had no idea of a time frame for completion of the album had been set, and gradually extra tracks were added. A couple more years past with some difficulties and huge personal disappointments, heartaches and heartbreaks ,and these gave rise to songs like And the Wind Blows and Hope against Hope. Finally determination to get back up and go on stronger than ever, while trusting in God for strength, led to the penning of Porch Rocker Blues and Kicking Cans. Thrown into the mix was a song written a number of years back but previously unrecorded Come Back Baby, and with the other songs nearing completion a deadline of August 2004 was set for the release of the album. So Kicking Cans rolled off the printing press thanks to a faithful bunch of helpers right on time.
